November 22, 2012 – The American Numismatic Society Board of Trustees, at their October 20, 2012 Meeting, voted to include Ms. Rosemary Lazenby as an additional honoree at the 2013 Annual Dinner Gala.
The ANS announced earlier that the Trustees’ Award will be presented to ANS President, Mr. Roger S. Siboni, and a Distinguished Service Award will go to Mr. Richard B. Witschonke. The decision was made on Saturday to also honor Ms. Rosemary Lazenby, Curatorial Officer of the New York Federal Reserve Bank, with a Distinguished Service Award. Mr. Siboni, Mr. Witschonke, and Ms. Lazenby will be honored on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City.
Each year the Annual Dinner Gala raises thousands of dollars for the American Numismatic Society. Gala proceeds are put to effective use in furthering the mission and building upon the rich traditions of the ANS. Highlights of the evening will include a live auction, entertainment by comic David Deeble, dinner, and dancing to the music of the Lester Lanin Orchestra.

Ms. Rosemary Lazenby has been selected by the ANS Board of Trustees to receive a Distinguished Service Award in recognition of her contributions and unwavering support of the ANS exhibition program at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, which ran for ten successful years.
In June 2000, the ANS and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York began planning a joint exhibition at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. In January 2002 the historic exhibit Drachmas, Doubloons and Dollars: The History of Money opened to wide acclaim.
As the long standing Archivist, and since 2011 Curatorial Officer of the New York Fed, Rosemary’s knowledge and guardianship of the details surrounding the mounting of the exhibit and extended events made the program a success. Rosemary’s hard work and support over the past ten years made it possible for the ANS and the New York Fed to launch several other exhibits including: Treasures from the Holy Land: Byzantine Gold Hoard from Bet She’an, Israel; Full Circle: The Olympic Heritage in Coins and Medals; New York on Steel – an exhibit of stock certificates and bonds with bank note-engraved scenes of New York City and its buildings, 1840-1980s; “I suppose I shall be impeached for it…” Theodore Roosevelt, Augustus Saint-Gaudens and America’s most beautiful coin; Funny Money: the Fight of the United States Secret Service against Counterfeit Money; Cultural Change: Coins of the Holy Land; and most recently Signs of Inflation.
Rosemary, as a liaison for the New York Fed Legal Department and Corporate Secretary’s Office was the key in the development of the longstanding relationship between the two institutions. Her steadfast, yet warm and generous manner made it possible for the ANS to increase its educational programs and tours of the exhibits at the New York Fed. She hosted countless openings, receptions, press conferences, and visits from dignitaries and ANS staff. In 2002 the Trustees elected Ms. Lazenby as an Honorary Life Fellow.
