June 14, 2012 – Plans are well underway for the 74th Anniversary Convention of the Central States Numismatic Society, according to General Chairman Kevin Foley, who said, “We’ll be returning to the Schaumburg, IL Renaissance Hotel and Convention Center for the second year of a total five year commitment at that suburban property located just ten miles northwest of O’Hare Airport near the Woodfield Mall.
Foley continued, “We’ll be observing a new schedule this year, one that will no longer include a Wednesday Professional Numismatists Guild Day, but will instead see all of our 250+ booth holders able to move in and start doing business then. Wednesday will also include a six hour Early Bird period from 12noon-6PM, where collectors and dealers without booths will be able to gain early access to the bourse for a $75 registration fee. Our expanded schedule will include complimentary public hours on Thursday from 10AM-7PM, Friday from 10AM-6PM and Saturday from 10AM-5PM. Our overall bourse dates will be April 24-27, 2013, with auction lot viewing for our two Heritage Signature Sales beginning on Tuesday, April 23. Our security room will open on Monday, April 22 to accommodate early arrivals. There is actually a considerable amount of business that is conducted by dealers and collectors in their rooms prior to the formal opening of the coin show portion of our convention on Wednesday. The security room gives them a safe storage place for their valuables.”

Foley continued, “I’m especially excited about the expanded business hours our new schedule format will allow, both for dealer to dealer business, as well as for retail trade. On Wednesday, all of our booth holders will be able to move in, set up and do business with each other and our Early Bird attendees. The new format will give them access to 250+ booths and all the buying and selling opportunities they offer, in contrast to our past schedule, where only a smaller 85 booth portion of the bourse was up and operating on Wednesday. The new schedule will also give our attendees a full day of retail trade opportunities on Thursday, rather than the half day our past schedule provided. This is truly a win-win for everyone who’ll be participating in our convention, making our event better and more responsive to the needs of all our participants.”

Ray Lockwood, the CSNS Education Director, joined Foley in expressing his enthusiasm for the 74th Anniversary Convention in saying, “We’ll once again have a Civil War Educational Forum as the centerpiece of the learning experiences available at our convention. While the lineup hasn’t quite been finalized, it will be a blockbuster, offering speakers on both numismatic themes related to the Civil War era, as well as more purely historical studies focused on the political environment of the era. Our 2012 forum drew an audience that was multiples of the attendance at any past such ventures at our convention. I believe our 2013 attendees will agree that we’ve surpassed even that well received series of presentations.”

CSNS convention attendees will have access to a $147 room rate at the Renaissance Schaumburg Hotel. They should call the hotel at (847) 303-4100 and mention rate code “CENCENA” to obtain the rate. American Airlines will also be offering a 5% fare discount for CSNS convention attendees. The discount can be booked on line and entering rate code “3243BM”.

Jerry Lebo will once again be serving as Bourse Chairman for the 250+ booth event. Dealers interested in bourse space should contact him for an application either via email or by calling  (574) 753-2489.
