Collecting coins in China based on harmony

February 12, 2013 – Peter Anthony, expert on Chinese modern coins, explains why the concept of harmony applies not only to the Chinese society in general but to Chinese numismatics in particular as well.
According to Mr Anthony some years ago no Chinese collector would have bought single coins at all. Only complete sets represent something harmonious and thus desirable. Now things have changed a bit, single coins may be sought after but still not because the single coin is a means of its own but only for composing a harmonious set together with others. It is this view on the world that characterises Chinese numismatics.
