June 21, 2012 – From September 26-28, 2012 the Belgian School at Athens and the French School at Athens will organise a conference in collaboration with KIKPE, FRS-FNRS and Ulg. The title of the conference is: ‘TYPOI. Greek Coins and Their Images: noble issuers, humble users?’ The conference will take place at the EfA (conference room).
The programme covers a wide range of subjects as a glance on the programme reveals. Karsten Dahmen will speak on ‘King into legend. Varying perspectives of Alexander. Issuer and audience of coins bearing the image of Alexander the Great’, Oliver D. Hoover treats counterfeiting and imitation in the Seleucid empire, Erika Manders deals with the Roman emperor’s family on Greek imperial coins, and Johan Van Heesch asks, who decided what was to be put on coins in the Roman Empire at all. Questions of methodology and issues of cities around the Black Sea are also in the centre of the scholars’ interest.
