National Coin and Currency Convention 2013 Approaches

October 24, 2013 – The 28th Annual National Coin and Currency Convention, scheduled for the Crowne Plaza Chicago O’Hare, located one mile from O’Hare Airport at 5440 North River Road in the northwest Chicago suburb of Rosemont, will be held Thursday through Sunday, November 21 to 24 at the Crowne Plaza Chicago O’Hare. The event site is just across the street from the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center, site of August’s American Numismatic Association Convention.

Bourse Chairman Kevin Foley said of the event, “We’ll once again have a mix of both coin and currency dealers, as well as a three session Lyn Knight auction on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The Crowne Plaza has proven to be highly popular with our attendees. Everything is under one roof, ballroom, meeting rooms, security room and restaurant. In addition, the highly popular Gibson’s restaurant is right next door. Lyn Knight will once again have an exceptional auction. His firm has been with our event since we started more than a quarter century ago at the Cervantes Convention Center in downtown St. Louis. Since then we’ve been at four other sites, including the Crowne Plaza, which I think is a definite “keeper”. It is close to the airport, as well as Rosemont’s newly opened Entertainment District.”

The event will get underway on Thursday, November 21, from 1PM-6PM, when the Professional Preview/Early Bird Day will open to dealers without booths, as well as collectors, for a $75 registration fee. The regular public hours will be 10AM-6PM on Friday and Saturday, as well as 10AM-2PM on Sunday. Registration during the Friday-Sunday period will be $5 for a pass valid all three days.

Educational highlight of the convention will be a 1PM Saturday meeting of the Chicago Coin Club, also open to the general public. Society of Paper Money Collectors Past President Mark Anderson will give a program entitled, “The Swedish Private Banknote Era: 1824-1906 and Its Influence on the United States Federal Reserve System”.

Rooms are available at the Crowne Plaza at a special group rate of $115. Attendees should call the hotel at (877) 337-5793 and ask for the “National Coin and Currency Convention” rate.

The 71 booth show will have dealers from 21 different states. Convention General Chairman Patricia Foley said of the event, “We’ll have a good mix of coin and currency dealers. The size of the NCCC is ideal for finding what our attendees are looking for by actually really being able to visit with most of the dealers during our three public days and the Early Bird Day on Thursday.”

Dealers interested in booth space should contact Bourse Chairman Kevin Foley via e-mail.

A complete listing of booth holders, as well as a bourse map and Schedule of Events, is available on the PCDA website.
