January 10, 2013 – The National Coin and Currency Convention, sponsored by the Professional Currency Dealers Association, will be held November 21-24, 2013 at the Crowne Plaza Chicago O’Hare, 5440 North River Road, in close proximity to Chicago’s O’Hare Airport. Patricia Foley, General Chairman of the event, now in its 28th year, said of the show, “This will be our third year in the Chicago market, after spending a quarter century in the immediate St. Louis area. Both of our previous shows at our new home have seen a sold out bourse and progressively higher public attendance. At our 2012 event fully three quarters of the booth holders renewed and paid for their 2013 space a full year in advance, a factor that leads me to see a bright future at our new Chicago area home.”

Foley also said, “Everyone seems to like the fact that all our activities are under one roof. There is a real safety and security consideration at numismatic events. People are vulnerable having to go outside and take a long walk, or drive a distance from their lodgings to the bourse area and auction room. Having a self contained event all in one facility, as the National Coin and Currency Convention is, just makes for one less thing people who take part have to worry about. Another factor that makes the Chicago market a real attraction for both our attendees and booth holders is the fact that numismatic material, including not just coins, but paper money, as well, is exempt from the sales tax. This is an especially important factor that makes Illinois and Chicago an especially user friendly numismatic convention venue.”

She also mentioned, “Lyn Knight will once again be our official auction company. He’s been with us from our very first show. Every one of his sales have offered a broad range of different price and rarity levels, attracting  a mix of buyers to our event. The Knight sales always have items that sell for anywhere from a few hundred dollars or less well into the six figures and above. Our show and Lyn’s auction compliment and add to each other in a way that makes the combination more successful than either would be as a stand alone function.”

Chairman Foley continued by saying, “Another feature of our event that always proves popular is the Chicago Coin Club’s 1PM Saturday meeting. The club is really into numismatic education and they always have a speaker who is a cut above. Their plans aren’t finalized for 2013 yet, but when they are I know that they’ll once again have a really fascinating presentation. Their meetings are open to the public and they are a very hospitable group, consistently making visitors feel welcome and valued.”

Kevin Foley will serve as Bourse Chairman of the NCCC, a post he has held since the first PCDA sponsored show in 1985. He said of the event, “Although our organization’s primary focus is rare currency, our show is open to coin dealers, both United States and world, as well. Over the years as the PDCA has grown from its original base of roughly 40, to almost 150 right now, more and more of the membership have also included coins in their offerings. The  name of our event reflects that broadened focus and gives everyone a better idea of what they can expect to find at our show. We welcome dealers with diverse numismatic offerings, whether they are PCDA members or not.”

Bourse applications are available from Foley by calling him at (414) 807-0116 or via e-mail.

Rooms are available at the Crowne Plaza event site at a discounted rate of $115. Reservations can be made by calling the Crowne Plaza at (877) 337-5793 and asking for the “National Coin and Currency Convention” rate.
