In 1814, Vittorio Emanuele I, King of Piedmont and Sardinia, established the Corps of the Carabinieri Reali, with the task of protecting public order. Since then the Carabinieri, an Italian excellence, have played a special role in the collective imagination of the Italian people, going along with them through all the steps of their national history.
