The Perth Mint Releases Chinese Dragons and Mythical Creatures

September 15, 2011 – In September the Perth Mint releases new coins celebrating the Year of the Dragon of the Chinese zodiac. The starfish and the bush babies remind us of Australia’s natural beauties, while the Mythical Creatures Set goes far beyond the borders of the land down under.

There is certainly something special about the fourth annual Young Collectors coin set. Fabulous creatures from the mythical world – like goblins and the Phoenix, the Unicorn and Fairies – have been recreated by the Perth Mint’s designers. The Young Collector’s Mythical Creatures set comprises nine $1 coins portraying mythical creatures, with a limited mintage of only 4,000 sets being released worldwide.

The second release in the Sea Life II – The Reef series is a stunning coin that features a starfish. The coin is struck by The Perth Mint from 1/2oz of 99.9% pure silver in proof quality, and issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965.

The Perth Mint and Australia Post are pleased to present the third release in the adorable Australian Bush Babies Stamp and Coin series, featuring the iconic Australian bilby. The official Australia Post 60 cent stamp is postmarked for the first day of issue and the envelope is endorsed with Australia Post’s Seal of Authenticity and official number.

Bush babies do not only fascinate humans, but also baboons. In the Nairobi Orphanage a baboon adopted a bush baby. Take a look at this moving video clip.
