November 13, 2012 – How long will coins be used any longer? Dave Harper doubts whether coins will continue to exist for much longer, at least in the USA. He points out that the vending machine industry has always influenced decisively on the fate of coins. If they felt no more any necessity of employing coins because cashless payment methods via mobile could substitute them, then this could mean the end of coins.
Although Mr Harper admits that in Europe a coin of higher denomination (the 2 Euro coin corresponds to $2.60) is still being accepted by the customers, he stresses that tradition and behaviour in the USA are different.
