Frédérique Duyrat (*1970) studied History at the University Paris Sorbonne – Paris IV and received her doctoral degree in 2000 with her dissertation on the coinage and history of Hellenistic Arados. The publication of her doctoral thesis earned her the Prix Mendel of the Institut de France as well as the Prix Delepierre of the “Société pour l’encouragement des études grecques” in 2005. It was also at the Paris Sorbonne that she habilitated in 2010 with a study on the coinage and the circulation of money in Hellenistic Syria. 

Frédérique Duyrat was a research associate at the Institut français d'archéologie du Proche Orient in Damascus (1996-1998), lecturer for Greek History at the Paris Sorbonne (1998-2001) and for Ancient History at the University of Orléans (2001-2009). Between 2002 and 2014 she was a research associate at the Centre Ernest Babelon. Since 2015 she has been research associate at the “Orient et Méditerranée – Mondes sémitiques” at the Paris Sorbonne and since 2017 she has the Kraay-Robinson Fellowship at the Wolfson College and the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford.

In 2010, Frédérique Duyrat became head conservator for the collection of Greek coins at the Département des Monnaies, médailles et antiques of the Bibliothèque nationale de France in Paris. In 2013 she was made director there and then general conservator in 2015.

Frédérique Duyrat has organised a number of colloquia and participated in many research projects, like for instance the “OPAL – Oxford Paris Alexander Project. Transnational Perspectives in a Digital Age” (2016/17). Since 2014 she is part of the project ANR CRISIS, which examines reactions to environmental and economic crises at the Roman borders in the Egyptian desert in the 5th/6th century BC. She is also part of the project KOINON which researches the structures and every-day-life circumstances in Greek states on the base of production and circulation of money in the 5th to 1st century A.D. (2016-2019).

Since 1995, Frédérique Duyrat has written more than 70 publications. She is the co-director of the “Revue Numismatique” and she is on the academic advisory council for series like “Syria” and the “Revue des études anciennes“. She is also a member of the “Société française de numismatique (SFN)”, the “Association française d’histoire économique (AFHE)” and the “Société des professeurs d’histoire ancienne de l’université (SOPHAU)”.
