September 12, 2013 – In the lead-up to the Royal Christening of His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge, the first born son of William and Catherine, Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, the Royal Australian Mint has further extended its congratulations with a collectable coin celebrating the arrival of the third-in-line to the British throne.
Whilst this is the first Royal Australian Mint coin dedicated to Prince George Alexander Louis, it becomes a focal point in Australia’s long and proud tradition of releasing coins commemorating important royal events.
“The arrival of His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge is an important moment in history. We’ve seen many Australians happy to celebrate the birth of Prince George,” said Bernie Ripoll MP, Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer. “Many Australians embrace the royal celebrations so it is fitting that the Royal Australian Mint recognises this happy event on our currency,” said Mr Ripoll.

The coin features a family tree with the initials ‘W’ and ‘C’ above ‘HRH Prince George Born 22.07.2013’, and was designed by the Royal Australian Mint after extensive consultation with Buckingham Palace.
“This coin is part of the Royal Australian Mint’s Royal Collection – a very popular collection amongst the royal followers,” said Mr Mark Cartwright, Acting Marketing Director of the Royal Australian Mint.
“Ever since the pregnancy was announced we have taken many enquiries from the public wanting to know if there will be a coin to add to their collection,” said Mr Cartwright. “I’m sure this news will excite many of them, especially knowing that they can buy and take it home with them today.”
