May 25, 2017 – The 1st Conference of the Museum of the Bank of Albania will be held in Tirana, Albania, on 14th-15th of June 2017, at the premises of the Bank of Albania. The conference will be a two-day event, with the first day dedicated to Monetary history in Albania from antiquity to modern times. The topic of the second day will be “Money and Banking Museums: Exploring the history of money and banking through exhibitions, education and innovation”.

All Central Bank Museums or Visitor Centers deal with the subject of money and banking, their history and relationship with the human society. Some of them do so merely through the use of numismatic collections, whereas others offer a distinctly interactive experience that draws on multimedia technology. Moreover, more and more Central Bank Museums have committed to financial education initiatives to teach valuable skills for improving financial literacy.

This conference will provide the opportunity to bring together different experiences, proposals, and approaches in the field of museology, numismatics and financial education from museum professionals and experts from both private and public sectors.

On the second day of the Conference, representatives of central bank museums may share their vision, experience and challenges in one of these three topics:

  • Promoting cultural heritage and financial education;
  • Exhibition development and collections interpretation; or,
  • Creating interactive museum exhibits as a way to increase audience engagement.

Participants who are interested in delivering presentations are invited to send an extended abstract to the Museum of the Bank of Albania or to Ms. Arlinda Kolenico (Research Department).
