January 26, 2017 – Nomos AG, one of the Top 100 auction houses listed in the 2016 Art & Auction Magazine review and specialists in ancient to the Renaissance coins and medals, announces that Dimitrios Gerothanasis, a PhD candidate in History & Archeology from the University of Thessaloniki, Greece, will join the firm on February 1st, 2017.

Dimitri Gerothanasis is a PhD candidate in History & Archeology at the University of Thessaloniki, Greece and will be joining Nomos AG.

Dimitri is completing a significant die study on the entire coinage of Mende. Dimitri brings honesty and complete integrity to Nomos combined with a deep knowledge of both Greek and Roman coins. He speaks English and German as well as some French and Italian.

Dimitri will join Dr. Alan Walker at Nomos. Dr. Walker was one of the three pillars of the most prominent numismatic firm of the last 50 years along with Leo Mildenberg and Silvia Hurter. Those three fine numismatists, specializing in ancient coinage, built the Bank Leu numismatic department which subsequently became Leu Numismatik AG and LHS Numismatics. Dr. Walker’s 40 year history of experience in numismatics will combine wonderfully with the computer / internet savvy of Mr. Gerothanasis to provide complete client services.

Both Alan and Dimitri will be cataloguing the Stöcklin family collection of over 2000 ancient Greek, Roman and Byzantine coins which will be offered in a series of auctions beginning this spring. This collection was assembled over a span of  70 years and contains coins purchased from history’s finest firms. Detailed provenance information was carefully catalogued with each coin after its purchase by the family. Our May 2017 auction in Zürich will contain highlights. Several Obolos auctions will also contain examples from this magnificent collection.

Both Alan Walker and Dimitri Gerothanasis look forward to continuing to assist clients and consignors with all aspects of numismatics.

You can find Dimitri Gerothanasis on Academia.edu.

He is member of the SilCoinCy Project.
