Lithuania issues coin in honor of Mykolas Kleopas Oginskis

October 1, 2015 – The latest release of the Lithuanian Mint is a 20 euro collector silver coin dedicated to the 250th anniversary of the birth of national and public figure Mykolas Kleopas Oginskis.

The reverse of the coin features a portrait of Mykolas Kleopas Oginskis. The notes of his well-known polonaise “Farewell to the Homeland” are depicted on the reverse of a coin. The obverse of the coin depicts a coat-of-arms of the Republic of Lithuania, inscriptions LIETUVA (Lithuania), the year of issue 2015, denomination 20 euros and a hat. The mintmark of the mint is impressed on the obverse of the coin.

On the edge of the coin M. K. Oginskis’ words TEVYNES LABUI INESU SAVAJA DALJ (For the good of my homeland I give my part) are inscribed.

Mykolas Kleopas Oginskis (1765-1833) is a national and public figure, political emigrant from the former Polish-Lithuanian State – the Commonwealth. He was a former diplomat, one of the leaders of the Kosciuszko Uprising, nurturer of the idea of Lithuania’s statehood, composer and musical theoretician.
