September 3, 2015 – The Perth Mint has released a limited edition commemorative coin to pay tribute to the iconic character, Spock, from the renowned classic television series, ‘Star TrekTM: The Original Series’.

Portraying a logical alien with trademark pointed ears Spock has proven to be one of the most well recognised television characters of all time. His famous split-finger Vulcan salute, meaning to “live long and prosper,” has become a cultural phenomenon with many generations.

Tuvalu / 1 Tuvaluan Dollar / 1 oz / Silver .999 / 31.135 g / 40.60 mm / Designer: Jennifer McKenna / Mintage: 5000.

The coin portrays a colour image of Leonard Nimoy (1931-2015) giving the Vulcan salute as Spock, as he appeared in ‘Star Trek’, against a representation of the IDIC Vulcan symbol and the inscription SPOCK. The design also includes The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark.

Perth Mint Acting General Manager, Marketing, Neil Vance said, “Here at The Perth Mint we are delighted to honour the legacy of the late actor Leonard Nimoy and his on screen character, with the release of this precious metal collectable.”
Under license by CBS Consumer Products, the coin is struck from 1oz of 99.9% pure silver and is issued as legal tender under the authority of the Government of Tuvalu.

Presented in a ‘Star Trek’ inspired display case and accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity, no more than 5,000 of the 2015 ‘Star Trek: The Original Series’ – Spock 1oz Silver Proof Coin will be released by The Perth Mint.

‘The Original Series’ is by no means the only ‘Star Trek’ television series that has inspired The Perth Mint to create commemorative coins: other series include ‘Star Trek – The Next Generation’, ‘Star Trek – Deep Space Nine’, and ‘Star Trek – Voyager’.
