Every baby deserves a royal welcome, and to honour the year in which we welcome a future British sovereign into the world, The Royal Mint has crafted a special edition silver proof £5 crown, in keeping with the tradition of giving a gift of silver to new born babies to wish them future health, wealth and happiness. Carrying the classic St George and the Dragon design by Benedetto Pistrucci normally associated with the gold Sovereign, it is a fitting design in a tribute to a future sovereign, and is available exclusively from The Royal Mint. Only ever replicated in silver on very special national occasions, the last time Pistrucci’s design was portrayed in silver was in 1951 in celebration of the Festival of Britain.
