Shortlist for IACA awards

September 10, 2013 – There are six companies hoping to win a prestigious IACA ‘Excellence in Currency Awards’ at the Coin Conference in Berlin in October.

The shortlist for ‘Best New Coin Innovation’ features:

  • The Royal Mint – which has introduced iSIS – a new generation of coin with four levels of banknote-strength security – covering overt, covert and forensic
  • Mint of Finland – which has developed CoinTune – a system based on electromagnetic acoustic transducer technology to improve coin authentication
  • Royal Canadian Mint – which has introduced advanced new security features into Canada’s new $1 and $2 Coins.

The finalists for the ‘Best New Circulating Coin or Series’ are:

  • Monetary Authority of Singapore – with the Third Series coins featuring national icons and landmarks which are well-known and easily recognised even on small surfaces like coins
  • Banco de La Republica Colombia – with a new series of coins that highlight the importance of environmental resources, especially water
  • Bank Negara Malaysia – with designs for the third series of coins illustrating the diversity and richness of Malaysia’s national identity through traditional crafts and natural flora and fauna.

IACA members are currently voting on the shortlist and the winners of these two awards will be presented at the Coin Conference on 29 October 2013.
The IACA awards are just part of a diverse programme of events taking place in nine weeks time.
