Symposium in Early Medieval Coinage Call for Papers

May 5, 2016 – The Sixth International Symposium in Early Medieval Coinage will take place on 28th and 29th October 2016. The symposium now returns to the Fitzwilliam, Cambridge, for the museum’s bicentenary. The event will start with a keynote speech on Friday followed by the traditional visit to a local pizzeria.

The theme: North v South

The overall theme is North v South. Preference will be given to papers which are site-specific. Although a broadly numismatic approach is preferred, related topics will be considered.

Call for Speakers

In the past there have been more wanting to speak than time permits. To help alleviate the logjam, the Sixth symposium will offer both short and long sessions. Short sessions allow, for example, the introduction of early stage research or the discussion of a single topic. Short sessions will be strictly timed to 10 minutes before the guillotine descends. The long sessions will be 20 minutes with 5 minutes for questions.
Please submit your c.200-word abstract for consideration early, i.e. before 31st May. Please state whether you wish to have a short or long session and if, in the event of a late absence of a scheduled speaker, you would be prepared to be held in reserve.
Registration information will be circulated shortly.

For further information you may wish to contact Tony Abramson or Alison Leonard.
