September 10, 2013 – In 2010 a new series of hundred dollar bills was announced in the USA. The new banknotes are expected to feature besides a new design various security enhancement features which are also said to help the visually impaired and to improve immediate recognition. However, there have been continuous problems. In last April the date of issue was postponed once again to October 8, 2013.

But now The New Yorker reported that another blunder seems to have occurred. Some thirty million banknotes were reportedly mixed with banknotes of ‘clearly unacceptable’ quality in printing – and so all of them must be destroyed.
The Bureau of Engraving and Printing, which is the institution that produces the banknotes, is currently under pressure to keep up with the production of the expected amount of new banknotes. The taxpayers have to face, another time, additional costs, for dealing with this incident.
