September 22, 2011 – The first silver bars in a new Lunar Zodiac series were issued in 2010 by Panda America – commemorating the Year of the Tiger – produced by Sunshine Minting, primary supplier of silver blanks to the U.S. Mint. Last year, the price of silver moved up dramatically from about $ 15 to nearly $ 30 per ounce. The Tiger bars sold as quickly as Sunshine Mining could make them, and investors / collectors were often unable to obtain them.
A spokesperson for Panda America indicated that “Silver bullion products remain scarce in 2011 – with silver trading in the range of $ 35 to nearly $50 – and production of the new 1, 10 and 100 oz. Year of the Rabbit pure silver bars may not be able to satisfy the demand.”
The new Prooflike Brilliant Uncirculated bars feature a running rabbit, weight and fineness, and the Chinese character for “Year of the Tiger” on the front, and multiple logos of Sunshine Minting on the back.
As an added incentive to purchasers of the 2011 silver bars, buyers will be given priority when orders are accepted for the 2012 silver bars celebrating the most popular of all Lunar-Zodiac signs – the Year of the Dragon.
Panda America has received their first shipment of 1 oz. pure silver Year of the Rabbit bars by Sunshine Minting. Larger sizes are expected soon.
