August 30, 2018 – Dix Noonan Webb, the international coins, medals and jewellery specialists, have opened a new stand-alone banknotes department staffed by two leading experts who have joined the company from another London auction house. Sales of banknotes at Mayfair-based DNW have previously been held under the umbrella of the coins department but now a dedicated team has been recruited.

Andrew Pattinson

The department is headed by Andrew Pattison, who oversaw the modernisation and expansion of the banknotes department at Spink, where he handled the very finest British and world banknotes. He has been the auctioneer at prestigious sales, including parts of the exceptional Bruce Smart Collection.

Thomasina Smith

He is working alongside banknotes specialist Thomasina Smith, who has also joined DNW from Spink. Michael O’Grady, who has been banknotes consultant at DNW for some years, will continue in his role at the company.

“I am proud to lead a modern and dynamic specialist team focusing on exceptional client service and producing quality catalogues for collectors of all types of paper money,” said Andrew.

Pierce Noonan, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer at DNW, said: “I welcome Andrew and Thomasina to Dix Noonan Webb. Both of them have a wealth of experience working at the very top of the banknotes market. We have in recent years sold a steadily increasing number of banknotes, presided over by our expert consultant Mike O’Grady. However, it has never been a discipline in which we have majored and it is very exciting to have now set up a stand-alone banknotes department capable of competing at the highest level.

“The hiring of Andrew and Thomasina is completely in line with our company ethos of only employing top quality experienced professionals with a proven track record in their chosen field.”
